The acclaimed, bestselling manga about a girl who can't hear and the boy who bullied her, from start to finish, in a premium, collectible box set. Includes all seven volumes, plus an exclusive, double-sided 10-by-15-inch poster and a replica of Shoko's communication notebook.

This emotional drama is one of the most critically-acclaimed manga of the decade, earning an Eisner nomination and accolades from teachers and the American Library Association. Years ago, Shoya Ishida led his peers in tormenting a hearing-impaired classmate, Shoko Nishimiya. When she transfers schools, Shoya finds he has gone from bully to bullied, and is left completely alone. Now Shoya struggles to redeem himself in Shoko's eyes and to face the classmates who turned on him. An animated film adaptation from Kyoto Animation has swept the globe, arriving in US theaters in October 2017.

A Masterpiece of Emotions

Reviewed by on

Story: 10/10
There is a very genuine and real feeling to this story. The main theme that is apparent in each of the three dimensions (in terms of this review) is “relatable”. The actual story deals with heavy topics such as bullying and suicide. Not only does this story deal with 1) being bullied and 2) being the one that bullies, but it also deals with the after-effects of bullying.
I believe that the story in this manga is a masterpiece due to its ability to provoke strong emotional responses. I shed a few tears while reading some of the chapters, while feeling elated in other chapters. The story is both heart-breaking and heart-warming. A real rollercoaster of emotions.

Art: 9/10
The art is fantastic! The best part about the illustrations is the incorporation of sign-language. These actions are very unique and just beautiful to look at. The other very important aspect to mention is that the characters have are drawn to be very life-like, relatable, and real. There are no overly-attractive characters or disproportionate body parts.

Character: 8.5/10
The main character focus of the manga is Ishida Shouya. His character is very relatable and real, as the mangaka does an excellent job portraying his good and bad sides. This is a refreshing change from the usual “OP” and “Perfect” hero characters that’s popular in manga today. Overall Ishida Shouya is lost and confused, just trying to find out how to live his life – which is what makes him so relatable. The rest of the characters (Secondary characters) are well layered and actual depth.

Overall: Must Buy!
The box set is decently priced and will look very nice on your shelf. There are some extras included which are a bonus and the overall reading of the manga is very pleasant. It’s a definite re-read material!
