Description

Blair Witch goes back to its found footage roots 20 years after James s sister and her two friends vanished into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland, while researching the legend of the Blair Witch leaving a trail of theories and suspicions in their wake. The film documents James and his friends Peter, Ashley and film student Lisa venturing into the same woods each with a camera to uncover the mysteries surrounding the 1999 disappearances. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals Lane and Talia offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods. But as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realise the terrifying legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.

Movie Critics
A.V. Club
"The results play less like a throwback to the subtle analog tactics of the original than a fun house designed around the BLAIR WITCH brand." -- Grade: B-
A.A. Dowd (15 Sep 2016, )
Empire
3 stars out of 5 -- "Mini jolts of fear are earned by the timing of entirely innocuous noises -- the burst of static from walkie talkies, or even the crunch of the amateur cuts between scenes. And full-body lurches are achieved when the supernatural events start for real."
Empire Staff (12 Sep 2016, )
Entertainment Weekly
"BLAIR WITCH manages to strike a balance between pleasing the fans of the 1999 found-footage film and working as a Friday night at the multiplex, mainly by sticking to the principle that what you don’t see will always be scarier." -- Grade: B
Kevin P. Sullivan (15 Sep 2016, )
RogerEbert.com
"Wingard’s eye is still prominent, even in the found footage concept....The movie gets its most mileage from the minor beats like waking up at 7 a.m. to find it still dark out..."
Brian Tallerico (16 Sep 2016, )
Total Film
4 stars out of 5 -- "Religiously copying the intriguing/annoying/terrifying beats of the first film, BLAIR WITCH contains one genuine surprise: it’s very good."
Matt Glasby (11 Sep 2016, )
