- Synopsis
- Young navigator Moana (voice of Auli'i Cravalho), the daughter of a Polynesian tribal chief, is chosen to find a precious artifact that could save her people. She teams with demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) to locate a legendary island, and together the pair explore fantastical lands and encounter incredible sea creatures in this animated adventure from Disney. The film's soundtrack includes contributions from Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony and Grammy-winning creator of the popular stage musical Hamilton. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker.

- A.V. Club
- "[Moana is] an immediately likable figure of headstrong, occasionally bumbling determination....Johnson, whose expressive eyebrows have been animated onto Maui’s broader face, does justice to both sides of the character." -- Grade: B+— Jesse Hassenger (21 Nov 2016, )
- Boston Globe
- "[A] dependably entertaining, visually dazzling riff on Polynesian folklore from the animators behind THE LITTLE MERMAID and ALADDIN."— Tom Russo (21 Nov 2016, )
- Empire
- "Like FROZEN, it’s a progressive Disney movie that nimbly dodges outdated tropes....Also like FROZEN, it’s got some mighty music, thanks in no small measure to the involvement of Broadway smash Lin-Manuel Miranda."— Nick De Semlyen (7 Nov 2016, )
- Los Angeles Times
- "MOANA follows TANGLED and FROZEN in a newer wave of cleverly refurbished fairy tales, reinventing the company line with CG animation, self-referential humor, slyly feminist attitudes and other contemporary amenities."— Justin Chang (22 Nov 2016, )
- New York Times
- "[MOANA] includes a few infectious numbers by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a heart-tugging orchestral pop score by the Disney stalwart Mark Mancina. Buoyant songs by the Polynesian singer and composer Opetaia Foa’i anchor the film’s cheery globalism in a specific South Pacific milieu."— A. O. Scott (22 Nov 2016, )
- RogerEbert.com
- 3.5 stars out of 4 -- "[Y]ou could go see MOANA for its dazzling visuals, catchy tunes, enjoyable performances, clever running gags and overall sense of fun. It’s all there..."— Christy Lemire (22 Nov 2016, )
