The STAR TREK franchise continues with this follow-up to 2009's J.J. Abrams-directed reboot. Abrams returns to direct from a script by Damon Lindelof and the writing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The crew of the Enterprise engages in an epic battle of good versus evil after being summoned home, only to discover Starfleet in ruins, and they venture into a war zone to find the powerful villain (SHERLOCK's Benedict Cumberbatch) responsible for the devastation.

A.V. Club
"For the first time in years, maybe decades, the crew of the Enterprise faces a worthy adversary....Rip-roaring set-pieces aside, the biggest pleasure here is still the yin-yang chemistry between Kirk and Spock..."
A.V. Club (16 May 2013, )
Chicago Sun-Times
"This new voyage of the starship Enterprise is brash, confident, and often brutally violent..."
Matt Zoller Seitz (16 May 2013, )
4 stars out of 5 -- "INTO DARKNESS is a blast, fun, funny, spectacular and exhilarating."
Ian Freer (3 May 2013, )
Entertainment Weekly
"INTO DARKNESS is a sleek, thrilling epic that's also a triumphantly witty popcorn morality play. It's everything you could want in a STAR TREK movie." -- Grade: A
Owen Gleiberman (24 May 2013, )
Hollywood Reporter
"[E]xtra attention has been paid to provide the leads with morsels of human dimensions, including crises of conscience, uncertainty, fallibility [and] hidden motives..."
Todd McCarthy (2 May 2013, )
Los Angeles Times
"It's a great deal of brash fun, and it should satisfy all those basic Trekkie cravings."
Betsy Sharkey (15 May 2013, )
Rolling Stone
3.5 stars out of 4 -- "Abrams boldly goes into STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, and crushes it again. It's more fun and more intense, without giving less to the characters."
Peter Travers (16 May 2013, )
Total Film
4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his is fantastic fun: a two-hours-plus blockbuster that doesn’t bog down in exposition or sag in the middle. There are reversals and rug-pulls galore, most of them executed with whiplash skill."
Matthew Leyland (9 May 2013, )
USA Today
3.5 stars out of 4 -- "Spectacular special effects, superbly crafted action sequences, plenty of humor and terrific performances render it a cut above most summer blockbusters."
Claudia Puig (16 May 2013, )
"J.J. Abrams sets his filmmaking to 'stun' for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, a sequel in every respect equal or even superior to its splendid 2009 predecessor..."
Scott Foundas (2 May 2013, )
Wall Street Journal
"Chris Pine makes the roguish James Tiberius Kirk a charismatic swashbuckler, always willing to bend a rule. Mr. Spock is played, blessedly, by the drily funny Zachary Quinto."
John Anderson (16 May 2013, )
Washington Post
"Like its predecessor, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS benefits from superb casting and bold, escapist flair."
(15 May 2013, )
