Description

Benny Boom directs this US biographical drama about controversial rapper, actor and activist Tupac Shakur (Demetrius Shipp Jr). After emerging from the New York rap scene in the early 1990s, Tupac quickly rose to stardom thanks to his powerful lyrics, outspoken nature and his revolutionary mind-set. Recognising Tupac's talent, L.A. based Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight (Dominic L. Santana) invites him to the West Coast and signs him to his label in a move which would cause much conflict with his former friends in New York. However, although his music career continues to grow, it's not long before Tupac's life begins to spiral out of control as a sexual assault charge lands him in jail while his escalating feud with the East Coast rappers threatens to become violent.

"Shipp does a beautiful job of capturing Tupac’s fire, his passion, his million-watt star presence -- as well as his short fuse and his combative nature, even with those only looking out for his best interests."
Richard Roeper (16 Jun 2017, )
