Synopsis
In this sequel to the 2014 family film, Paddington Bear (voice of Ben Whishaw) tries to earn enough money to buy an antique book for his aunt's 100th birthday, but his quest brings him into conflict with an unscrupulous actor (Hugh Grant) who also wants the tome. In time, Paddington's misadventures cause him to end up in jail, and he plots his escape with the help of a kindhearted convict (Brendan Gleeson). Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Michael Gambon, and Imelda Staunton co-star. Directed by Paul King, PADDINGTON 2 is based on the beloved series of children's books by Michael Bond.

Movie Critics
A.V. Club
"[King] continues to prove himself a confident and comparatively sophisticated stylist, employing cutaway sets, Rube Goldberg slapstick, animated sequences in different styles, and loads of visual gags to create the film’s dollhouse-storybook world..."
Ignatiy Vishnevetsky (8 Jan 2017, )
Chicago Sun-Times
"There are slapstick hijinks and silly scenarios aplenty, but at its heart PADDINGTON 2 has something serious to say about making the world a better place through daily acts of kindness."
(11 Jan 2018, )
Empire
5 stars out of 5 -- "There are wonderful sequences of physical comedy....King’s visual comic timing is impeccable."

Devan Coggan (11 Jan 2018, )
Hollywood Reporter
"[The film] is every bit as perfectly tuned, cruelty-free funny and kind-hearted as its predecessor, maybe even more so."
Leslie Felperin (26 Oct 2017, )
Los Angeles Times
"[A] beautifully structured comedy of the old school, full of inspired blink-and-you-miss-it wordplay, intricate gags that build on each other, and narrative digressions that pay off in ways that feel inspired rather than predictable."
Justin Chang (11 Jan 2018, )
New York Times
"Mr. King and his excellent team of actors and animators spin good writing and seamless digital effects into Rococo children’s entertainment."
New York Times Critic (10 Jan 2018, )
RogerEbert.com
3 stars out of 4 -- "PADDINGTON 2 proves the smart-but-sweet combination that marked the first live-action film was no fluke."
Christy Lemire (12 Jan 2018, )

"King leans on his strengths -- strong characterization and grand visual storytelling -- to win the viewer over, and it’s hard to resist."
David Sims (10 Jan 2018, )
The Guardian
4 stars out of 5 -- "The film is pitched with insouciant ease and a lightness of touch at both children and adults without any self-conscious shifts in irony or tone: it’s humour with the citrus tang of top-quality thick-cut marmalade."
Peter Bradshaw (26 Oct 2017, )
Total Film
4 stars out of 5 -- "It all adds up to an engaging, rib-tickling and warm-hearted charmer..."

Guy Lodge (26 Oct 2017, )
Washington Post
"[T]he sequel is stunning to look at, with inventive, colorful sets and such crafty interludes as a sequence in which Paddington imagines himself and his Aunt Lucy frolicking through the pages of the elusive pop-up book."
Stephanie Merry (10 Jan 2018, )
