Description

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world. The film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp. The cast also includes, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, and Poppy Corby-Tuech. “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.

3 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t’s a film stuffed with characters, big moments and impressive spectacle but still feels bizarrely underpowered."
Ian Freer (8 Nov 2018, )
Hollywood Reporter
"The sequel has better and at times galvanizing special effects, a darker tone and a high-stakes battle between good and evil. Best of all, its characters are more vibrantly drawn, and tangled in relationships that range from delightful to lethal."
Caryn James (8 Nov 2018, )
RogerEbert.com
"[Depp] finds a stillness and a resonant, villainous depth to his voice."
Christy Lemire (16 Nov 2018, )
Rolling Stone
3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he scope of Rowling’s imaginative reach cannot be denied. And as the film inches closer to Potter territory, the pulse quickens."
Peter Travers (15 Nov 2018, )
Total Film
5 stars out of 5 -- "Yates truly understands what makes the Wizarding World work. Each frame is filled to the brim with detail, whether it’s goblins cleaning windows on floating lifts or a contraption hoovering round the Ministry of Magic."
James Mottram (6 Nov 2018, )
Variety
"Most of the surface pleasures of filmic Potterdom have survived intact..."
Andrew Barker (8 Nov 2018, )
