Movie Critics
Chicago Sun-Times
"From the get-go, this film tells us we’re in for a real SHOW....Elton John deserves a movie operating on a much grander scale than a standard, paint-by-numbers showbiz biopic, and ROCKETMAN is a suitably snazzy vehicle."
Richard Roeper (21 May 2019, )
Film Comment
"[A] cannily honed machine, absolutely sure of its purpose, so you rather feel you’ve been sold a complete deluxe package, as you might in a flawlessly staged Broadway or West End show..."
Jonathan Romney (31 May 2019, )
New York Times
"It’s fan service of an especially and characteristically generous kind. It’s certain that Elton John has nothing left to prove, but it’s also possible that he’s underappreciated."
A. O. Scott (28 May 2019, )
Rolling Stone
4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he film owes its success less to shock value than to sheer cinematic inventiveness and Egerton’s total immersion in the role."
Peter Travers (28 May 2019, )
The Guardian
5 stars out of 5 -- "The result is a riotous fact-meets-fiction swirl...all tied together by a barnstorming central performance from Taron Egerton."
Mark Kermode (26 May 2019, )
