Description

Double bill of superhero adventures starring Tom Holland as the eponymous hero.

In 'Spider-Man - Homecoming' (2017), sequel to 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016), a young Peter Parker (Holland) begins to realise the full extent of his powers as Spider-Man. As a teenager struggling with everyday turmoil including school, homework and a crush on a girl who's out of his league, Peter also has to deal with the fact that he is Spider-Man and has the ability to change the world.

When he meets with Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), a seasoned superhero who tries to pass on some words of wisdom, Peter is told that his priority should be working hard at school to get good grades, not donning his Spider-Man suit and fighting crime, but for Peter the urge to stop bad guys is just too overwhelming and he tries to find a way to do both. The cast also includes Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture, Michael Chernus as Phineas Mason aka Tinkerer and Marisa Tomei as Peter's Aunt May.

In 'Spider-Man - Far from Home' (2019), following on from the events of 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019), Peter Parker takes a much-needed break with his friends.

While on holiday, he is visited by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who wants to recruit Spider-Man for his team.

Movie Critics
A.V. Club
"Much of the film’s infectiously youthful spirit comes courtesy of its star....In his pipsqueak overeagerness, his boyish enthusiasm, Holland comes across as authentically adolescent..." -- Grade: B
A.A. Dowd (30 Jun 2017, )
Boston Globe
"[S]ometimes, as in the case of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, a superhero movie is adolescent in all the right ways: limber, reckless, full of youthful brio and uncertainty."
Ty Burr (3 Jul 2017, )
Chicago Sun-Times
"[A] relatively and refreshingly scaled-down adventure, with at least as many scenes set in high school as in the skies. At times it plays like a 21st century version of a John Hughes teen-angst romance/comedy meshed with a superhero saga."
Richard Roeper (3 Jul 2017, )
Empire
4 stars out of 5 -- "[S]tarring the best screen Spider-Man so far. Nimble and shrimpy, Tom Holland’s Parker is hugely endearing from his first scene..."
Nick De Semlyen (29 Jun 2017, )
Entertainment Weekly
"That HOMECOMING comes off as loose and sweet and light on its feet as it does feels like sort of minor Marvel miracle..." -- Grade: B+
Leah Greenblatt (29 Jun 2017, )
Los Angeles Times
"[I]n Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. the Vulture, a blue-collar guy with a grievance against the system fiercely played by Michael Keaton, HOMECOMING has one of the strongest, most sympathetic villains of the entire series."
Kenneth Turan (5 Jul 2017, )
New York Times
"The Vulture is a mess of prickly contradictions, only some of which seem intentional. His criminality, rage and perhaps his madness have been stoked by class resentment and Mr. Keaton, with his white-hot menace and narrowing eyes, makes him a memorably angry man, not a caricature."
Manohla Dargis (29 Jun 2017, )
RogerEbert.com
3 stars out of 4 -- "[I]t delivers some genuinely effective action/suspense set pieces..."
Glenn Kenny (3 Jul 2017, )
Rolling Stone
3 stars out of 4 -- "Tom Holland is the best movie Spider-Man ever. He finds the kid inside the famous red onesie and brings out the kid in even the most hardened filmgoer."
Peter Travers (30 Jun 2017, )
The Atlantic
"[A] fast and very funny superflick that inserts Spidey into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe without ever losing sight of what makes him unique and beloved."
Christopher Orr (6 Jul 2017, )
The Guardian
3 stars out of 5 -- "Part superhero movie, part high-school coming-of-age story, it’s bouncy, likable and completely devoid of threat."
Wendy Ide (9 Jul 2017, )

"The character comedy is great fun..."
Jesse Hassenger (27 Jun 2019, )

"It’s zesty, sweet and satisfying, bursting with pyrotechnics, sprinkled with sharp humor and infused with just enough life-and-death to hold your interest."
Richard Roeper (27 Jun 2019, )
Empire
4 stars out of 5 -- "[Made] with the same considerable wit, boundless energy and tonal levity that made 2017’s SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING such a joy."
Empire Staff (27 Jun 2019, )

"The young cast, led by Tom Holland as the bashful web-slinger and Zendaya as a shy girl slow to lose her inhibitions, is plenty appealing as well as funny."
Todd McCarthy (27 Jun 2019, )

"The amusingly low stakes and the abundance of teen melodramatics are part of the movie’s stealthy charm."
Justin Chang (27 Jun 2019, )
