Synopsis
Director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow team up again for this comedy that stars Kristen Wiig as Annie, a romantically unattached failed bakery owner who fears she's losing her BFF, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), the best thing in her life, when Lillian announces she's gotten engaged. Annie's anxieties deepen as Lillian grows close to Helen (Rose Byrne), a wealthy and beautiful new friend who quickly assumes control of planning all the pre-wedding festivities. On top of the main storyline of a female friendship being torn apart, the movie adds a romantic storyline for Annie, who starts the film answering a booty call from the casually cruel yet undeniably handsome Ted (Jon Hamm), but develops a lovely flirtation with an Irish cop named Rhodes (Chris O'Dowd) after he pulls Annie over one night thinking she's driving drunk. As the low-self-esteem Annie sabotages this new possibility for love, she also feels the most important friendship in her life slipping away.

Movie Critics
Box Office
4.5 stars out of 5 -- "BRIDESMAIDS is a four-square piece of populist fun that ranks as quite possibly the best mainstream American comedy in years....Star Kristen Wiig is a force of nature all to herself..."
(15 Mar 2011, )
Chicago Sun-Times
3.5 stars out of 4 -- "Wiig is rather brilliant in her physical comedy....The movie does a good job of introducing a large cast and in particular keeping all the members of the bridal party in play."
Roger Ebert (11 May 2011, )
Entertainment Weekly
"BRIDESMAIDS has a fully rounded, textured and original script....The actresses are all scene-stealers..." -- Grade: A
Owen Gleiberman (20 May 2011, )
Los Angeles Times
"[Wiig] was already on her way to becoming the new grande dame of comedy....In BRIDESMAIDS, she proves she's a gifted actress as well..."
Betsy Sharkey (13 May 2011, )
New York Times
"[A]n unexpectedly funny new comedy....[It] goes where no typical chick flick does: the gutter."
Manohla Dargis (13 May 2011, )
Rolling Stone
3 stars out of 4 -- "Wiig is an indisputable goddess of comedy. And this rowdy fem-friendship movie she stars in and wrote with Annie Mumolo is infused with the Wiig brand of wicked mischief."
Peter Travers (27 May 2011, )
Sight and Sound
"With its irreverent humour and comical cast, this female ensemble movie has more in common with Apatow's unisex KNOCKED UP than your average girlie wedding comedy....Heavy on improv and chemistry..."
Anna Smith (1 Jul 2011, )
Total Film
4 stars out of 5 -- "The standout here is Melissa McCarthy....[She] goes all out to be this flick's Zach Galifianakis."
Neil Smith (1 Jun 2011, )
USA Today
"After shining on SNL, Kristen Wiig finally has a lead role worthy of her comic talents. And wedding prep gets the absurdly humorous treatment it deserves."
Claudia Puig (13 May 2011, )
Washington Post
3 stars out of 4 -- "Kristen Wiig plants a bawdy, brave and brashly feminist flag in the male-dominated raunch-com genre with BRIDESMAIDS, a comedy from the Judd Apatow atelier that his fans have long been waiting for."
