Control the rage
The God of War has changed… and this is not the Kratos you know.
A difficult and unfamiliar road awaits as you explore a stunning retelling of a classic story. Join Kratos as he adventures through a deep and reflective journey of growth, violence and the desire to become a better man for the sake of his son. In a world of monsters, dragons and gods, the weight of responsibility rests heavy on your shoulders – and when your life is filled with blood and chaos, how can you prevent the mistakes of the past in order to protect your future?
A dangerous new era
This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
A bold new narrative
As mentor and protector to a son determined to earn his respect, Kratos is faced with an unexpected opportunity to master the rage that has long defined him. Questioning the dark lineage he’s passed on to his offspring, he hopes to make amends for the shortcomings – and horrors – of his past.
A darker world
Set within the untamed forests, mountains and realms of Norse lore, steel yourself for a distinctively new and dangerous land complete with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.
Vicious, physical combat
With an intimate, over-the-shoulder free camera that brings the action closer than ever, combat is up close, frenetic and unflinching. Kratos’ powerful magic axe is a brutal weapon as well as a versatile tool for exploration. Always be on your guard.

Not A Fan
Matiu onReviewed by
With that being said, I really had not enjoyed the game at all. The visuals, lighting and attention to detail in the environments were all excellent, but where I found the game lacking was in terms of the story.
Every sequence of the game tended to lock you in the environment, and subsequently force you to scrounge around in it (collecting every pointless McGuffin) before you would be permitted to proceed. For argument sake, let us say that every game tends to do this...
But what every game doesn't do, is force you to re-enter previously cleared areas between 2-4 times, collecting just ONE one McGuffin, before being allowed to proceed. Too often I felt like the game was simply shifting the goal posts for me.
I did not like it at all...
Sorry guys :(

First the graphics and attention to detail in this game is AMAZING. Just when you think you have found every chest and picked up every ounce of coin in an area, somehow you discover another little hidden crack with some loot in it on your way out.
The art design is stunning. One of the reasons I was so excited about this game is the focus on the Norse legends. This game really did its research and the environments are rich with colors and honestly things I've never seen before in a video game.
The 9 realms are brought to life in a very grand and jaw dropping way. The story and little interactions between father and son throughout really pulls you into their relationship. There are times when the son acts like a typical kid where he asks if we are there yet, he constantly longs for his dead mother, sometimes Kratos wants to comfort his son but doesn't know how so he stops just shy of putting a reassuring hand on his son's shoulder.
Not to mention the combat is challenging. You will get into fights where you are out powered and will need to come back later once you've upgraded your gear more. The one long shot camera for the whole game really does make a difference. It makes you feel as if you are there and when you are just destroying an enemy with your bare hands, you see all that gore and detail.
This is by far the best ps4 exclusive and actually the greatest console game I have played to date ! Definitely recommend this game

Best Game of 2018 (so far)

After seeing a few of the ratings that other publishers were giving the game (without reading the reviews), I thought I would take the plunge and play it.
I can definitely say this game is not like the predecessors. I was first disappointed with the beginning of the game as I am used to killing hordes of enemies before having all my powers stripped from me but with this game it started slow with no combat till about 10-15mins into the game. As I continued playing through I can see Kratos is struggling to be a comforting father to his son as he lost his previous family in the first game of the series.
I become attached to the new side of Kratos as he continues to hide and run from his past but then I am taken back and it hits me in my feelings that Kratos is forced to run back to his past in order to help his son.
I would recommend this game to anyone. The game may fill you with emotions that you would not expect from a God of War game and I am glad I took the plunge to play this game. I am already on my 2nd play through on the hardest difficulty
Best game of 2018.

An "Uncharted Horizon" awaits

I know the heading compiles the previous massive Sony Exclusives but this basically sums up what God of War truly is, A combination of the excellent, tear-jerking and breathtaking story telling Naughty Dog portrays in each of their games mixed with the open worldliness, RPG elements and "choose your weapons wisely" game play that Horizon has to offer, If you have not played either of the games i mentioned its okay but you would appreciate God of War way way more.
The story is an innocent tale, non like the previous God of War games, and if you're like me and played the 6 games before, Yes 6 not 3 :P, then seeing Kratos like this is.. something i personally never thought i'd see and such light really shines in moments of the game when you want him and Atreus to have that connection, thats the amazing story telling that just makes you grip your controller harder and even speak to your television as if they can hear you.
As for the combat.. if you like a challenge then i definitely recommend this, if you played Horizon Zero Dawn then you sure know you can't walk into every fight the same, and the same applies here with the hoard of different enemy types you face, as well as some hidden bosses who... really give you a whipping if you feeling the game isn't hard at all.
At the end, every gamer is different. I love games that take you on a journey and keep you in this amazement that is the story and God of War did that to me, from the simple things like watching the cold on their breath as they breathe out, YES! graphics are AMAZING!, to the way the music chimes in on key moments and to the boss fights that make you feel it, showing that you are fighting a boss and not just some random.. This is truly a beautiful and breath taking game and i recommend this to even the hardest of Fortnite players out there, because games transport you but this? this story will transcends you.

Combat is deep, with multi-layered combos and visceral melee attacks.
The game is visually stunning, lighting, detail and artstyle all contribute to a polished graphical package.
GoW is a solid 35 hour story with a lot more post game content for completionists which remains fun throughout.
Worth buying a PS4 for.

A New Take on Kratos...and it's BRILLIANT
Nurolan G onReviewed by
Onward to the new one - it's a whole new take on GOW as a whole. Think Last of Us and Uncharted meets GOW. What a brilliant concept! Now the camera is centred behind you from beginning to end. A first for a GOW game. This view offers more closeness to Kratos and gives you a more in depth experience. It also makes combat all the more challenging as enemies can flank you. Thankfully your son, Atreus calls out to you telling you where off screen attacks will come from so you can brace yourself/take defensive or even offensive action depending on the situation. Speaking of Atreus - this is a completely new addition to GOW. For the first time ever I have a companion in the game. He helps show a different side to Kratos. He has a good heart and always wants to help others while Kratos trains him in the ways of battle and shows him how to be extra cautious of others. The new weapon gifted to Kratos by his late wife is epic! The Leviathan Axe! This axe can be used in melee attacks to great effect and can be thrown at enemies for more combat versatility. It is also most helpful in puzzle solving and world traversal. An excellent idea and a joy to call back to your hand after throwing it an infinite number of times :) An old school classic has made a return as well, though I don't want to spoil it for you ;) This all makes the combat thrilling, more challenging and oh so rewarding!! RPG elements abound with weapon, shield and skill growth with enhancements and buffs for each in the form of armour, and runic attachments amongst others.
The graphics are spectacular!! Second to none. Santa Monica Studio have raised the bar even higher. Experienced on a standard PS4 or the Pro is awesome with the latter offering an even richer, smoother graphical look and feel provided you have a high quality HDR 4K UHD TV. I highly recommend the Pro but if you don't have one then do not fear. Your experience will still be great on the standard PS4 too. There is so much to experience that I find myself awe struck at the magnificence and sheer scale of it all. The new Nordic world to explore is alluring and richly detailed. The story is very gripping that pulled me in from the sad yet inspiring beginning for a deep and emotional, driven to beat the odds action packed adventure and will do the same for you too.
