Experience survival horror like never before in Resident Evil Village, which will utilize the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to elevate each desperate fight to survive by showcasing the most realistic and terrifying graphics to date. The all-new title is the eighth major installment in the storied Resident Evil franchise, which established the survival horror genre nearly 25 years ago.

Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from the Resident Evil series, is reacquainted with the couple and horribly disrupts their life, spiraling Ethan into chaos. A devastated Ethan finds himself in a remote snow-capped village seeking answers after being thrown into an entirely new nightmare.

  • All New Resident Evil Experience – Picking up where Resident Evil 7 biohazard left off, Resident Evil Village is the eighth major installment in the flagship Resident Evil series. The game sees the reunited Ethan and Mia Winters living happily together and putting their shared nightmares of the Baker’s plantation behind them… until their life is upended and Ethan becomes the focal point of a new nightmare.
  • Next Generation Technology – RE Engine paired with the new technological power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will deliver hyper-detailed graphics, bringing the shadowy village and its haunting residents to life. Resident Evil Village will showcase the most realistic survival horror experience to date.
  • First-Person Action – Players will assume the role of Ethan Winters and experience every up-close battle and terrifying pursuit through a first-person perspective.
  • Familiar Faces and New Foes – Chris Redfield has typically been a hero in the Resident Evil series, but his appearance in Resident Evil Village seemingly shrouds him in sinister motives. A host of new adversaries inhabiting the enigmatic village will relentlessly hunt Ethan and hinder his every move as he attempts to make sense of the new nightmare he finds himself in.
  • A Living, Breathing Village – More than just a mysterious backdrop for the horrifying events that unfold in the game, the village is a character in its own right with mysteries for Ethan to uncover and terrors to escape from.
  • 25thAnniversary Celebration Bonus – As a thank you to fans, Resident Evil Village will include access to a free multiplayer experience titled Resident Evil Re:Verse, coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. An all-star cast of fan-favourite Resident Evil characters face off in four to six-player deathmatch battles in iconic series locations.

I went into this game excited but not expecting to be blown away as much as I was.

When I started the game, it was mostly for completion's sake as I've done a RE marathon and finished RE7 lately. So I guess I had a slight Resident Evil fatigue, admittedly. After about an hour or 2 of playing "Village," this "fatigue" disappeared completely. I was so immersed in the game and it got to a point where I felt like I was addicted.

This will sound cliché, as every reviewer is saying this, but "Village" is really a combination of RE4 and RE7, with all the other flavours of the franchise sprinkled in throughout. It even has blatant callbacks to RE4 - play and you'll see what I mean ;)

Is it scary? No, it isn't. It has its moments, but RE1, 2 and 7 are definitely scarier. The horror element is THERE, just not in as big a way or quite as effectively.

Is it action-packed? Yes! There are moments where the game allows lots of exploration, which quietens things down action-wise, but things always pick up.

The graphics are b-e-youtiful! I loved the setting and how detailed things were; I could tell a lot of effort went into the presentation of the game.

The story is okay. Nothing amazing, but the gameplay allows you to focus on just having a good time playing. I will say, though, that this is probably the boldest effort in the franchise story-wise, as they go into so many different territories of entertainment fiction. The plot and characters are all over the place on a wide spectrum of fiction, and you will either love or hate it.

This is not my favourite Resident Evil game, but it's somewhere near the top of the list. Truly impressed and enjoyed almost every minute.

All time favourite Resident Evil

Just wanted to point out the inaccuracies with regards to Dewald's review. It comes across as someone that has not played the game, but rather made a preconceived judgement.

The castle is not the only location you will be visiting, so I don't understand how you are constantly being chased.
Overall, this game has a solid story from start to end - graphics look great, if you have a Playstation 5 - This game uses the dualsense quite well.

The combat has significantly improved from Resident Evil 7 - which if you have no played, shame on you!!!
Overall it's solid game, I was amazed by the story which felt more grounded compared to previous titles in the franchise.

If you still on the fence as to whether you should purchase it, I suggest you try the demo which is currently available.

You are constantly chased being called a “stupid manthing”, and referred to as “meat.

This game definitely has a feminist heavy storyline, especially at the end.

What is good in this game? Well, the graphics are good (during the day…you’ll see why if you play or look at a video on YouTube). The scenery is okay. The game doesn’t really change much, but is okay.

The games are sort like how you upgrade from resident 4, and feels a little more like if that game was in first person”.

New game plus. Any game today should automatically have this as a stardard, especially story based games like this where some parts are extremely boring.

Cut scenes are very well done, and lighting.

What’s wrong with the game?

You can’t use a flashlight…unless the developers think you need it. Not being funny, but being someone at has disabled family at enjoy the franchise couldn’t even do the first part due to how dark the game is (even on max brightness), and made them feel alienated & unwelcome.

Guns are fairly dull & boring. It’s fun to see an upgrade actually do anything to your weapons, but but even maxing out your weapons, and getting all upgrades, it is still an overly boring, shallow experience.

The storyline is predictable, and vampires are okay, but it doesn’t feel like a resident evil game, especially when you are first person only. It’s nice, but an option would of been much more accurate. The ending is straightforward if you’ve listened to dialogue or played the previous games then you’ll piece it together.

Enemies are literal bullet sponges. Literally, on either casual or hardcore. Literally, it’s embarrassingly sad to see at this is what classes as “difficult” gaming by today’s generation, but…it is what it is. If that’s your thing you’ll enjoy it, but it gets boring after about 5 enemies, especially when enemies have barely any differences between them except for a few.

Is this game worth the price? No. Definitely no. The best thing you can do, give it about 2 months or so. Pick it up second or wait til price drops. Games like this die extremely fast, and once youtubers move onto another game (until dlc lands), games like this fizzle out after about 3-5 weeks.

Highly, highly recommended at least watch the first 30-60 minutes of gameplay on YouTube before you buy.
