From the graphics to the gameplay. The humor was always something I enjoyed in the series.
This is very much Next Gen

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a triumph. Insomniac have created a game that is literally a playable pixar movie. Across all gaming publications, this game is being heralded as one of the best, if not the best, looking console games ever, and I cannot fault anyone for thinking that. The character animations are smooth, and the fidelity achieved has no equal. Ratchets character model is so advanced, that you can see every hair in his fuzzy face. This is a major upgrade from the 2016 PS4 game in terms of visuals.
The game offers 3 modes, with performance RT the mode i played on. This lowers the resolution but keeps a lot of the visual bells and whsitles of the fidelity mode, but all at a silky smooth locked 60FPS. If there were any frame drops, i did not notice them and this game is a dream to play.
Gameplay is exactly what you would expect from a ratchet and clank game, and is pure fun. Some encounters become exceptionally chaotic and force you to use all weapons at your disposal, making for amazing set pieces that feel like all out war.
Finally, the ps5's ssd and i/o throughput is baked into the very design of this game, as entire worlds are loaded within a blink of an eye. This is exceptionally apparent on the fifth planet in the game where two unique maps are loaded in half a second simply by hitting a crystal in game. This is very much next gen and can not be accomplished on previous consoles, without a significant loading time.
For those that enjoy mascot platformers, this game is a no brainer and a powerhouse showpiece for your ps5 and well worth every cent. For those less inclined to this genre, waiting for a sale is a better option, but I do recommend you try this game out once as it could very well change your mind.
Another winner from Insomniac games and another hit for Playstation studios.
Yes, it is Next Gen

This game offers 3 graphical options.
1. 30 FPS 4k all bells and whistles including RT reflections.
2. 60 FPS performance RT mode.
3. 60 FPS performance mode with no RT
If you play the game on a quality display with the 1st option selected, you are in for a visual treat. The amount of particle, RayTraced, depth of field and other effects is a sight to behold along with the top-notch texture work. The actual animation work is really well done and while not motion captured adds to the cartoon feel the game has.
I also feel that Insomniac has found their feet with telling a compelling story with Spider-Man and they applied those lessons here with this game. While it is indeed for a younger audience, there is still loads of nuance in the story department here.
Gameplay wise, this game has a few incremental improvements on the previous titles. But if you have payed a R&C game before this you know what you are getting into. The one major improvement here is the ability to switch dimensions, the scale and speed at which this happens is something that is difficult to explain with a wall of text and is really worth experiencing for yourself.
I feel this is a great example of what a PS5 exclusive should be and it makes great use of the new hardware.
