Excellent game , great game play and stunning graphics very addictive

Captivating all the way through!

I purchased this game five years after its initial release in 2013, and it can certainly hold its own among the newer titles of 2018.

Fun, action packed and great story for a reboot. I couldn't get enough of this. The gameplay is great and the definitive edition offers awesome graphics. I will definitely be continuing this adventure with Rise of the Tomb Raider as soon as I can get my hands on it!

A fantastic reboot, but not puzzling enough.

This is a fantastic reboot to the legendary Tomb Raider franchise! The gameplay is great, with a focus on combat, action and developing your unique skill set. The Definitive Edition has stunning graphics, and a host of other improvements for the new console. The step away from puzzle solving is quite unfortunate though, as this has always been what makes Tomb Raider special.

Flips the Tomb Raider Script; All The Better For It

Tomb Raider on PS4 is a surprise. In the same way in which I was surprised at how much Uncharted 4 emphasised exploration over combat, I am just as surprised at how Tomb Raider favours action over exploration. But I'm totally sold on it, on its mechanics (less fidgety than in Uncharted 4) and also on its portrayal of Lara as a young, vulnerable first-time adventurer cum action hero.

I’ll admit to approaching Tomb Raider with some cynicism, knowing that this would be the second reboot of the series. Cynicism turned to joy after playing through a well-paced, well thought out action extravaganza. Well-written too, thanks to Rhianna Pratchett whose efforts previously went a long way in making Mirror’s Edge one of my favourite past-gen games. The results here include a more nuanced Lara Croft who progresses more organically to rise against her challenges – more human, less action figure.

Then there’s the refocus on action over all-out exploring, with the tombs relegated to cameo appearances (Lara even gets in a mischievous quip: “I hate raiding tombs..!”).

The action set-pieces were particularly well-handled. The game mechanics even made it so that the bow and arrow – usually my last choice in action games – became my favourite weapon, at least until I got THAT upgrade for the rifle.
I suppose comparisons with the Uncharted games are inevitable and to be sure Lara and Nate both have their merits. I’d say Nate edges Lara with his better movement and more dynamic action scenes. Lara counters by never giving the impression of overstaying her welcome and for having – for this iteration at least – the less gimmicky origin story.

Ultimately, I am happy that I played Uncharted 4 but I am happier to have played Tomb Raider.

Let me be clear, I LOVE Tomb Raider but I found this one to be lacking that certain something.
It's an excellent package still, however you would be better off starting with Rise of the Tomb Raider.
It has truly beautiful settings, almost endless replayability and is a far superior package overall.
